What is the difference between flow around a cylinder and flow around sphere in 2D flow LBM code ?

Hi !
When i programmed a 2D flow around a circular cylinder and then wanted to change the code to simulate a 2D flow around a sphere , i didn’t know where the difference will accure in the code . In 3D flow problems it’s clear that the two cases are different and give different velocity profiles. But in 2D it seems ( drom the papers i found) that the problem is treated similarly , which is not logical. I thought it may exist some parameter that can take into account the geometry of the obstacle or something.

i would like to have your opinion about this issue please .
thanks .
