Hi. I am trying to calculate the amount of torque (Nm) required to move a gate horizontally at 6m/s using a rack and pinion arrangement. The mass of the gate is approx 1500kg and the pinion is 100mm dia. The drive arrangement would be a hollow shaft helical gearbox with standard 1440 rpm electrical coupled motor.
