LBM restrictions for implementing surface tension

Hi dear all,

I am going to simulate free surfaces, more specifically foam evolution using the approach by Ginzburg and Steiner. It is intended to implement some models obtained directly from experiments, for example, an exponential variation of the surface tension due to pressure gradients during the expansion of the bubbles. Do you know whether there is any limitation or restriction of the LBM by implementing such kind of conditions. Unfortunately I can’t find any information about this challenge.
I hope you can help me, Thanks in advance.

Anuhar

Dear Anuhar,

Lattice Boltzmann always has some limitations :frowning: Especially in multiphase flows or free surface flows there are restrictions for the surface tension parameters due to discretization of the force. My suggestion is the trial-and-error method when you will certainly know the numerical limits for the simulation.
